IPA's Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT) Annual Snapshot Report provides essential information on Indiana's community foundations to inform the GIFT Technical Assistance Program work, advocate for the sector, and share information with peers. The Annual Snapshot provides an overview of Indiana community foundations' total assets, grantmaking, gifts, operating costs, and more, which can be used to understand trends in the sector and state.
The data included herein provides a valuable benchmark and could be utilized to explore trends or conduct analysis in greater depth, which could include an examination of charitable activity as it relates to various demographic data or other research (health, economic, educational attainment, or more).
The data and benchmarks contained within this report include contributions from 75 legal entities representing community foundations in all of Indiana's 92 counties. For the first time since 2016, and only the fourth time in the Snapshot Report history, 100% of community foundations participated in the annual survey.
Despite economic challenges in 2022, which included poor market performance paired with historically high inflation, community foundations reported total assets of over $4.5 billion, gifts exceeding $326 million, and grants of $267 million. For the first time, assets of $1 billion were reported for a single fund type.
The following figures represent the totals of each category for the entirety of the Indiana community foundation field:
